China News Service, Beijing, August 8 (Reporter Ying Ni) On August 28, the 2022-2023 music season of the China Philharmonic Orchestra will kick off in Beijing.

What is different from the past is that the China Philharmonic Orchestra will enter the NCPA this music season. During the music season throughout the year, there will be many important concerts held in the NCPA Concert Hall.

The concert on the evening of the 28th will be helmed by Yu Long, the artistic director and chief conductor of the China Philharmonic Orchestra, and perform three famous symphonic works by the British composer Edward Elgar, unveiling the mystery of the "British Mystery" for the audience. .

British composer Edward Elgar was born in 1857 and this year marks his 165th birthday.

He is one of the most famous composers in the history of British classical music, and his musical style has also established the British style in people's impression.

"Mighty March" is one of his most familiar works, and its surging rhythm will kick off this special concert.

The Riddle Variations is Elgar's most famous work and his most popular music to this day.

In addition to the pleasant melody, this work is also a "musical puzzle" that Elgar left to the world: the fourteen variations of the work are titled with abbreviations and unidentified names. The people are the composer's real-life friends.

When musicologists deciphered who each variation represented, it became clear that composers went to great lengths to shape them.

Another performance that will be performed at this concert is Elgar's famous Cello Concerto in E minor, only in this concert the audience will appreciate the viola version arranged by Lionel Tetis.

The concert soloist is young viola player Median, who just became principal viola of the Berlin Philharmonic earlier this year and is the first Chinese musician to join the orchestra.

In fact, this is the third time that Medyan's name has appeared in the music season of the China Philharmonic Orchestra: in the previous two music seasons, the orchestra had invited him to perform as a soloist, but twice because Cancellation for objective reasons.

Speaking of this late debut, Mediyan said, "Actually, I have always had a different feeling for the China Philharmonic Orchestra. I came to Beijing to study when I was 9 years old, and then I have been studying in the Primary School, the Middle School and the Central Conservatory of Music. I have listened to countless concerts of the China Philharmonic Orchestra in college and I can say that I am a home music fan of this orchestra. Although I had to cancel the two invitations to cooperate with the China Philharmonic Orchestra, it has been difficult to make this time. My cooperation with Director Yu Long is more meaningful."

When talking about the upcoming viola version of Elgar's Violin Concerto, Mediyan said, "Elgar's original work is a work that I have especially liked since I was a child. The power is shocking. Elgar wrote this work after the First World War and dedicated it to his deceased wife. Although this work is sad, it is also hopeful. I think this piece fits the viola's temperament very well. , although a little melancholy, but also not lacking in texture. I played the version arranged by the violaist Tertil, and added some of my own arrangements. This will be my first time playing this piece, I hope fans can enjoy it. Love this new look of the Elgar Violin Concerto."

It is reported that the China Philharmonic Orchestra will carry out a series of cooperation with the National Centre for the Performing Arts in the 2022-2023 music season, and perform a number of sets including the opening and closing ceremonies in its concert hall.
