  Recently, Hubei Provincial Institute of Cultural Relics and Archaeology and Xiangyang Municipal Institute of Cultural Relics and Archaeology conducted rescue excavations in the cemetery of the Dongwangjiaxiang site.

The site is located in the High-tech Zone of Xiangyang City, 1.5 kilometers southeast of the former site of Deng Guo. A total of 63 ancient tombs were discovered in the preliminary exploration.

Among them, one tomb can clearly see the tomb passage and tomb chamber.

According to the archaeological staff, the tomb is the largest earth pit tomb found in this round of excavation work. The tomb is 12.6 meters long, 2.4 meters wide, and the entire tomb is about 3.3 meters deep. It has been excavated to a depth of 1.5 meters.

  About 2 meters from the east of the tomb, archaeologists are also clearing another earth pit tomb. The coffin storage location in the tomb has begun to take shape, and a burial pottery pot and a pottery pot have been found in the bottom niche, both of which are well preserved.

It was in this pit tomb that a bronze belt hook and a bronze mirror fragment were also unearthed.

The bronze belt hook is exquisitely shaped, the tiger pattern is vivid, and the word "light" on the bronze mirror fragment is clearly visible.

  In an Eastern Han tomb excavated earlier, archaeologists found that there were doorposts and door leaves at the entrance of the tomb. The doorposts and door leaves were hollow portrait bricks. Green trees, with halberd officials and evergreen trees carved on the doorposts.

  Zhou Ting, head of the cemetery archaeology project at the Dongwangjiaxiang site, introduced that after two months of rescue excavation, it is now nearing the end. A total of 50 ancient tombs have been cleared and excavated, and more than 200 cultural relics such as bronzes, porcelain and pottery have been unearthed.

The tomb era spanned the four dynasties of the Western Han, Eastern Han, Six Dynasties, Sui and Tang Dynasties. There were earth pit tombs and brick chamber tombs. Some brick chamber tombs were well preserved, and the unearthed artifacts were also very complete. This is of great significance to the study of the evolution of Han and Tang tombs.
