A lifesaver in a roundabout way: The smoke detectors in a house in Munich saved a woman's life.

However, it was not the sleeping woman who heard the smoke alarms - her son in London received a corresponding message on his mobile phone and informed the police in London.

She contacted her colleagues in Munich so that the fire brigade could be alerted.

As the Munich fire brigade announced on Monday, the resident had forgotten her food on the stove during the night from Friday to Saturday and fell asleep.

The dishes caught fire and the smoke detectors sounded the alarm.

The son briefed the Munich emergency services on the situation using a surveillance camera above the front door and was able to follow the operation from afar.

The woman was taken out of the building unharmed.

After the operation, she was able to return to her house.

The amount of property damage remained unclear.
