A 22-year-old female dromedary kept at a zoo in Okazaki City, Aichi Prefecture, died on the 3rd of this month.

An autopsy revealed that the cause of death was heat stroke.

The deceased is a 22-year-old female dromedary camel "Hitomi" who was kept at Higashi Park Zoo in Okazaki City.

Hitomi was elderly and had been suffering from anorexia since around the 27th of last month, and although the zoo continued to treat her, she died on the 3rd of this month.

An autopsy at the zoo did not reveal any direct cause of death, but the temperature inside the body, such as the abdomen, was higher than usual, so it is believed that he died of heatstroke.

"Hitomi" was born at a zoo in Ehime Prefecture, and was later loaned to a zoo in Morioka City for breeding purposes, but due to renovation work, she has been living in Okazaki City since July last year.

Camels have a strong impression of heat, but according to the zoo, the heat accompanied by humidity may have responded to the body.

Okazaki City Higashi Park Zoo says, ``I'm happy to meet Hitomi and see the happy smiles of the visitors.
