Wakayama Prefecture announced on the 5th that 1474 new people were confirmed to be infected with the new coronavirus.
This is the third-highest number of cases ever announced in a single day and the highest number of cases ever announced on a Friday.
A total of 73,125 people were confirmed to be infected in the prefecture.
Four deaths have also been announced.
The number of seriously ill patients decreased by two from the 4th to 6.
