The local fisheries cooperative called on the morning of the 5th to refrain from offshore fishing after a Chinese ballistic missile fell into the sea around Yonaguni Island, Okinawa Prefecture.

On the afternoon of the 4th, six ballistic missiles launched by China fell into the training waters around Okinawa Prefecture, five of them inside Japan's EEZ (Exclusive Economic Zone) southwest of Hateruma Island, and one in Yonaguni. It is estimated to have fallen north-northwest of the island.

On the night of the 4th, when it was announced that a ballistic missile had been dropped, a shock spread across Yonaguni Island.

A woman living on the island said, "I'm afraid. She can't evacuate right away, so there's nothing we can do about it."

Also, a female staff member of the guest house said, "I thought it was only about China and Taiwan, but it seems that Japan is also approaching, and I didn't expect it at all."

In order to ensure the safety of fishermen, the Yonaguni Fisheries Cooperative Association called for self-restraint offshore fishing on the 5th and suspended the foreign vessel monitoring business.

After 5:00 on the morning of the 5th, the fishery cooperative called on the boats that had already left for fishing to return to the islands by radio or telephone.

A fisherman who refrained from fishing said, "It's hard. I can't go to the sea, so I'm in trouble. I want the government to stop this situation as soon as possible."

Another fisherman said, "From the 10th of this month, Okinawa will be obon and fish will be offered, but it's outrageous that I can't go fishing when I'm making the most money."
