Among the trees of the forests and in the depths of the sea, the lenses of the winners of the 11th edition of the Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum International Photography Award roamed and dived, capturing captivating scenes, whether for humans or rare wild or marine creatures, or even natural scenes that surprised those who watched them with joy.

Between white, black and colored, nature or even faces, photographers take a task in which the passion for documentation is mixed with creativity, so that the result is rare and impressive shots that capture the eye, and touch on environmental issues and the future of life on this planet.

abstract painting

It is difficult to pass by accidentally the picture that won the grand prize for British photographer Henley Spears, as he took a picture of a gannet bird that inhabits the north of the British island, swimming in a shower of bubbles resulting from its diving and rapid movement in the water.

Spears called the picture "Janet's Storm", as the bird's movement appears as if it is a storm inside the water, as it combs the movement of water in search of prey, while its long wings and streamlined body seem to facilitate the rapid movement of the bird.

The bird cuts through the surface of the water as if it was a sea torpedo, so the scene captured by the lens turns into something like an abstract painting, as the shape of the bird’s head becomes clear, so that the body and its details are drowned in the movement of the water, which takes a white color in the middle and transparent on both sides.

The work documents the movement of the bird and how it quickly penetrated the surface of the water, while showing the accuracy of the lens in capturing the bird's gaze and maintaining eye contact with its eyes.

"Layla" in color

In the axis of "Portrait", Qatari photographer Ali Seif El-Din takes us to a special moment and a rare shot of a type of gorilla species, which bears the name "Kiband" in Uganda.

Saif El-Din presented the photo in black and white, and while the second place winner, Muhammad Radi Abdelghani, took the face of “Laila” in color, to reflect through her features and eyes the highest forms of innocence and how it is embodied between her eyes, and the Guatemalan photographer captured the face of the girl who bears the name Laila, among the beautiful landscapes of nature. She was working and helping her family in the field, and despite her work, her face carried a lot of warmth and calm.

A group of photographers presented distinguished shots in nature in the black, white and colored axes, and the first place in the black and white “nature” axis was Muhammad Al-Amsa Raouf, from Indonesia, who took a picture of a group of children playing with flour after the end of the school year.

Raouf called his picture "The Flour War", as the children playing with flour appeared as if there was a funny war going on between them. They worked to weave unforgettable moments of joy, despite the bad condition of the Papua school in which they study in Indonesia.

The photographer monitored the movement of children flying in the air, while the flour formed the background that was scattered in the space of the place, to highlight the pure spontaneity of the scene.

And the second place in the same axis was taken by a picture of the Chinese Shuchuan Lu, entitled "Gate Bridge and Mount Fuji." The picture highlights the mountain, which is one of Japan's most famous mountains, and the Tokyo Bay Gate Bridge.

Notable in the photo is the only place from which you can see both the Gate Bridge and Mt. Fuji, where Mt. Fuji glacier and the bridge's metal frame shine together.

The image takes its beauty from the symbolism of the place, as Mount Fuji is a symbol of nobility, purity and exclusivity in Japanese culture, while the Gate Bridge symbolizes communication and communication.
