  • Thank you, yes, but until when?

More than a year ago, in May 2021, Demi Lovato came out as a

'non-binary'

person .

Since then, the singer decided to use neutral formulas to identify herself and the 'elle' began to form part of her vocabulary to refer to herself.

At the time, changing the pronoun to 'her

'

was in response to her feeling that her "masculine and feminine energy were in balance," she explained to BuzzFeed.

And it all came about the moment she was faced with the decision to enter a public bathroom: seeing the

'women' and 'men'

signs , she didn't feel like there was a

bathroom

for her, because I didn't necessarily feel like a woman, but not like a man either, he explained.

"I felt like a human being. And that's what 'elle' is about. For me, it's about feeling human on the inside."

But now, the singer, who also presented herself in her day as "someone California-style sober", has returned to using the pronoun 'she'.

And she has explained the reasons for doing it on the Spout podcast, where she has recently participated.

The former Disney actress explained in this program that she considers herself a "

gender fluid

person ", and that she has returned to using the feminine because recently, she has "felt more

feminine".

However, she has assured this program that defining her pronouns "is still a

learning process"

.

Demi Lovato returns to 'she'

The singer's decision has not been without

controversy

.

"Changing the pronouns at random contributes to a lack of seriousness (....), we better respect and honor them," she commented on

Twitter

upon hearing the news.

Some

criticisms

that not everyone shares.

"Demi identified as

her

for most of her life, identified as

them

for a while. Sometimes people change, everyone goes through phases until they really feel like they've found themselves. Demi is not trying to

disrespect

anyone... she is a person, just like you and me," Tavy replied.

Demi Lovato, 'she' or 'elle'?

Demi Lovato

has also

responded emphatically.

To identify as a

gender fluid

person is to feel that your sexual identity oscillates between two or more

genders

, something that can happen sporadically or permanently.

And, consequently, this also implies changing the formula of the

pronouns

that are used to refer to oneself depending on the way one feels at that moment.

"Everyone can mess up pronouns at some point, and especially when people are learning, it's all about respect."
