• July is the third hottest month of July in France.

Many departments are on orange vigilance this Wednesday in the face of the heat wave, and some are subject to restrictions on the use of water.

  • On social networks, Internet users claim that within 25 days there will be no more water in Corsica.

  • This will be the case in Haute-Corse if consumption continues as it is, and the weather forecasts remain as they are.

"All those who repeat like sheep that there will be no more water in Corsica in a month, shut up with your fake news", writes a user on Twitter.

The subject turns on social networks and divides the skeptics of the convinced.

As of June 5, the situation was considered "normal" by the prefecture in terms of rainfall, and reserves were at their maximum.

A “satisfactory approach to the summer season”.

Since the various heat waves, and with barely four days of rain recorded, things have changed a lot.

On July 13, Corsica went to heightened alert level in the face of drought, and put in place restrictions on the use of water.

Haute-Corse will soon exhaust all its water resources.

FAKE OFF

This Tuesday August 2 was held a meeting between the prefect of Haute-Corse, François Ravier, the president of the hydraulic office, the services of the State, those of the community of Corsica, and the representatives of the chamber of agriculture and Odarc.

A meeting scheduled to take stock of the water restriction measures put in place two weeks ago.

Following this, the prefect actually published a press release in which he announced: “If we continue at this rate of water consumption, given the expected weather developments, there will be no more water in 25 days!

»

In this same text, he underlined that if “these measures have had a certain effect, we are far from the expected objectives in terms of water saving”.

And also found numerous violations of the restrictions in force.

The prefect therefore considered that it was "urgent to take even more restrictive measures and to appeal to the collective and joint responsibility of all, whether consumers of raw water or drinking water". .

For raw water, watering which was until now prohibited for twenty-four hours each week, will now be 36 hours, with some exceptions.

“Controls will be significantly reinforced,” warns the prefect.

Old restrictions maintained

Other prohibitions: washing vehicles outside professional stations equipped with water savers, with the exception of professional vehicles subject to health or technical requirements, washing boats, with the exception of professional boats subject to health requirements or techniques, as well as the filling of private swimming pools and sprinkler irrigation.

Between 8:00 a.m. and 8:00 p.m., “drip” type watering is also prohibited.

The same applies to the watering of sports fields, golf courses, tree nurseries and public gardens, as well as the washing of public thoroughfares.
