Premature end clap for

Batgirl

.

Warner announced yesterday evening that the project, announced last year starring Leslie Grace as the superheroine, will not be released theatrically or via streaming.

A more than surprising decision since the film is already shot.

As Variety specifies, the producers injected 90 million dollars into the feature film which was in post-production.

The initial budget was $75 million, but additional costs had been generated by the Covid-19 pandemic.

Serial cuts

The choice to abandon the release would not be motivated by the quality of the film, but by the desire of the studios to produce only blockbusters for DC projects.

Batgirl

, directed by Adil El Arbi and Bilall Fallah (

Bad Boys for Life

), was to be released on the HBO Max streaming platform.

Along with Leslie Grace, the cast was rounded out by JK Simmons as Batgirl's father, Brendan Fraser as the villainous Firefly, and Michael Keaton who took over the Bruce Wayne/Batman costume.

This isn't the only cancellation announced by Warner Bros.

The animated movie

Scoob!

, released in 2020, will ultimately not have a sequel.

Again, the studios had spent a lot to continue the adventures of Scoobi-Doo: 40 million dollars, according to

Variety
