The heat wave will spread to new departments on Wednesday, mainly in the east of mainland France, with a total of 27 departments placed on orange alert, or 22 more, Météo-France announced on Tuesday.
Departments ranging from Bas-Rhin to Haute-Garonne via Vaucluse are concerned.
Most of them are concentrated in the east and south-east of the country.
This heatwave episode should be shorter than that of July, according to Météo-France.
The peak of heat will be reached on Wednesday and “it will still be present on Thursday by shifting towards the east”, specifies Météo-France in its bulletin.
Maximum temperatures “will often be greater than or equal to 35°C with peaks of 39 or 40°C in the Southwest”.
In addition, 41 departments are placed on heatwave yellow alert.
“An improvement in terms of temperatures is looming from Friday by the northwest”, specifies Météo-France.
