Discovered in 2006, the tallest tree in the world is now threatened.

The reason ?

While his exact location has never been disclosed, some adventurers and other social media followers have managed to find him.

Visiting the site, somewhere in Redwood National Park in California (United States), endangers the habitat of the tree called Hyperion, reports TF1 Info.

A giant sequoia of 116 m

To avoid an influx of tourists, no trail had been laid out to the exceptional giant sequoia almost 116 m high.

Despite this precaution, some people have managed to find it.

And lately, the national park authorities have noticed inappropriate behavior on site.

"There was litter, and people were creating side trails," said Leonel Arguello, the park's natural resources chief, as quoted by

.

Sector officials have also noted that trampling around the tree could damage its environment.

Another problem linked to the arrival of visitors: access to the site is difficult.

Hyperion is also in an area without telephone coverage, which could complicate the situation in the event of an accident.

preserve or destroy

Faced with this situation, the sector is now totally off-limits.

People who still venture to visit the site face up to a $5,000 fine and six months in prison.

"As a visitor, you must decide whether you want to take part in the preservation of this unique landscape, or participate in its destruction," reads a statement from the national park.
