Mayor Taue of Nagasaki City announced the outline of the peace declaration that will be read at the Peace Prayer Ceremony on the 9th of this month.

They share a sense of crisis that the risk of using nuclear weapons has become apparent, and insist that the only way to escape from that risk is to abolish nuclear weapons.

The "Nagasaki Peace Declaration" was compiled by the mayor of Nagasaki based on discussions at a drafting committee made up of A-bomb survivors and experts.

According to the statement, they share a sense of crisis that the risk of nuclear weapons use has become apparent after Russia's military invasion of Ukraine, and they insist that the only way to prevent nuclear weapons from being used is to eliminate them.

On top of that, it calls on the Japanese government to provide enhanced support for A-bomb survivors and provide relief to those who experienced the atomic bombing, as the average age of A-bomb survivors exceeds 84.

At a press conference, Mayor Taue revealed that as of July 26, 94 countries, the largest number ever, are scheduled to attend this year's ceremony.

Mayor Taue said, ``In the international situation, I believe that there are many countries that want to wish for peace together with Nagasaki. I think it will make more sense," he said.
