The companion of the woman found dead on Friday in Mantes-La-Jolie (Yvelines) was released on Saturday at the end of the day without charge against him at this stage, a police source told AFP on Sunday.

The 36-year-old man was released because there were not, "as is", sufficient charges to keep him in custody in this open investigation for intentional homicide, the Versailles prosecutor's office told AFP .

A 32-year-old woman was found dead Friday morning in the basement of her companion's pavilion, with whom she was in the process of separation.

She had come to pick up personal effects, according to a source familiar with the matter.

Thirty-six hours of custody

The companion, who is also the father of her three children, had alerted the police.

In the process, the mother of the deceased had made statements to the investigators evoking a conflict situation between the two companions.

The man remained in police custody for thirty-six hours.

The investigation, entrusted to the Yvelines Departmental Security, will continue with hearings of friends “in the coming days”, indicated the prosecution, which is also awaiting the results of anatomopathological analyzes.

Without "direct witness" of the scene, "there is no privileged track at this stage", underlined the prosecution.
