If there is no improvement, it will be extended.

Supposed to end on July 31, the financial assistance granted in March to fishermen in the face of soaring energy prices will be extended until September 30.

The announcement was made by the Secretary of State for the Sea Hervé Berville, visiting the first French fishing port in Boulogne-sur-Mer this Friday.

This aid of 35 cents per liter of fuel was instituted in March to help a sector which was facing the rise in fuel prices.

“We also obtained from the European Commission the increase in the authorized ceiling which was 65,000, we will be able to increase it to 105,000 euros”, added the Secretary of State.

The device has already cost more than 25 million euros to the State.

The bill should still swell by 18 million.

“We are rather satisfied”, but “we cannot be satisfied with infusions each time there are fuel increases”, reacted Olivier Leprêtre, president of the Hauts-de-France fisheries committee.

"We need long-term solutions, that is to say a repercussion of the increase in fuel on the price of fish and ultimately on the consumer," he added.
