It's an unusual message that Prince William posted on Kensington Palace's social media.

The Duke of Cambridge has indeed transmitted personally (and publicly, therefore) his condolences to the family of Anton Mzimba.

The man was a forest ranger from South Africa's Timbavati reserve, whom the future king of England had met during a virtual interview devoted to the defense of animals.

“I am deeply saddened to learn of the murder of Anton Mzimba, whom I spoke to in November.

Committed and courageous, rangers like Anton are essential to the conservation of Africa's fantastic wildlife.

Those responsible must be brought to justice quickly.

My thoughts are with his family,” reads the official Cambridge account.

And to show that he wrote the message himself, it's signed with a "W".

Prince William had spoken to Anton Mzimba as he visited Microsoft's premises in Reading, England, to learn about a new device that is supposed to help rangers fight ivory poachers.

According to Helping Rhinos, a local association that fights against poaching, the man was murdered outside his home earlier this week.

“This decision follows recent death threats and highlights the daily threat faced by rangers,” the association captioned a photo of the man.

“Anton, you left a legacy – a legacy we will hold high and never forget, in your honor.

We mourn the loss of Mr. Anton Mzimba, Head of Ranger Services, who dedicated 25 years of his life to the Timbavati.

Authentic testimony from a wildlife warrior,” the nature reserve posted on Twitter.
