After having met with great success with

Pan's Labyrinth

or

The Shape of Water

, he co-directed an adaptation of

Pinocchio

with Mark Gustafson .

The film will be released on Netflix next December, says the Huffington Post.

The story of Pinocchio has been adapted several times for television and cinema, notably by Disney.

The first images of the latest version were shown last January.

They suggested a rather dark film.

The more recent trailer, on the contrary, highlights a magical atmosphere for what Netflix describes as "a musical and fantastic epic".

Find your place in the world

As for the scenario, it seems to respect that of the famous original tale written by Carlo Collodi and released in 1883. A puppet comes to life after passing through the hands of Geppetto, a wood sculptor.

In his adventures filmed by Guillermo del Toro, the puppet “mischievous and disobedient […] seeks his place in the world”, announces Netflix.

On the casting side, the producers of the film called on big names.

Ewan McGregor is the voice of Cricket, Tilda Swinton that of the fairy and Cate Blanchett voices a dove.

It is also Regory Mann who interprets Pinocchio.

Another adaptation of the tale is planned on Disney+, 82 years after the cult cartoon.

The cast of this live-action feature film includes Tom Hanks, who will play the role of Geppetto.

Its release is scheduled for September 8 on the platform.
