Kristen Bell gives her kids melatonin gummies to help them fall asleep.

The actress said in an interview with the news program "E-News".

She and her husband, Dax Shepard, would pass the candy to daughters Lincoln and Delta.

So nothing stands in the way of an evening together.

"It just knocks them out faster and they're doing great," the forty-two-year-old said of the evening ritual.

"We don't want to go to sleep when they want to go to sleep, so far we've plugged our headphones into the TV and put on another series and they've been trying to fall asleep on the floor next to it."

The problem: up to now, the four of the family have shared a room, the nine and seven-year-old children would have slept on a mattress next to the parents' bed.

Now, however, the girls would have their own room.

Your beds would be next to each other.

"It lets them cuddle with each other instead of us," added the actress, who is best known for portraying Veronica Mars on the series of the same name.

Until a few years ago, melatonin in Germany was only available on prescription.

Products containing the hormone are now sold in pharmacies, drugstores and on the Internet without a prescription.

Especially with jet lag and shift work, the remedy can help to get the inner clock back on track.

It also doesn't cause addiction compared to other sleep aids.

The sensitivity of the human body to melatonin varies from person to person.

However, the decreasing melatonin level with increasing age is not always the sole cause of existing sleep disorders.

The use of melatonin as a sleep aid in children is controversial.

The drug has been approved for children from the age of two for several years.

The recommended dose is then 2 milligrams per day.

Conventional melatonin gummy bears on the German market contain between 0.5 and 1 milligram of the hormone per serving.

However, it should only be used if severe neurological diseases are causing the insomnia.

If unusually serious sleep problems occur in children, the causes can best be determined with the help of a doctor - even if the gummy bears are usually available in the drugstore without a package insert.
