• As of July 21, 2022, 1,567 confirmed cases of monkeypox have been identified in France, according to figures from Public Health France, including 726 cases residing in Ile-de-France

  • On Monday, various institutions had raised their voices in the face of the lack of resources and the delays in the preventive vaccination campaign against monkeypox.

  • This Wednesday, the government defended itself by presenting the results of its plan, 17 days after its implementation.

Did the government react quickly enough to the monkey pox epidemic?

If the Minister of Health assures this Wednesday that France "reacted extremely quickly" and "did not fall behind" in its vaccination plan, this opinion was however not shared by all at the start of the week.

In an article published on Monday, several French vaccination centers reported that the doses of vaccines against the disease had not yet reached them.

The Act Up-Paris association denounced in our pages a lack of doses and slots available to be vaccinated.

Even the Paris City Hall highlighted a lack of caregivers to vaccinate preventively, in two doses, all people at risk in Ile-de-France.

42,000 doses destocked

This Wednesday, the Ministry of Health assures

20 Minutes

that it has accelerated.

Regarding the supply problems of the vaccination centers managed by the regional health agencies, the ministry assures us that "to date, all the needs expressed by the ARS have been satisfied".

He adds that “42,000 doses have already been destocked from strategic stocks” and that “32,000” of them were available on national territory from Monday July 25.

"Supplies are planned for August, September and the following months", we are told.

More centers, more caregivers

As for the number of slots to be vaccinated, here too the Ministry of Health claims to have worked hard, "especially in vacation areas".

The number of vaccination centers increased from 70 on the first day of the extension of the vaccine indication, to "nearly 118 centres" 10 days later.

This extension is accompanied by an increase in the number of nursing staff to inject the famous serum.

According to an order issued by the Minister of Health, “retirees and healthy students will be able to vaccinate”.

The government thus intends to “further increase the number of open vaccination beaches”.
