The former Sully barracks in Saint-Cloud (Hauts-de-Seine) will eventually give way to the future Grand Siècle museum, expected for 2026. Before the opening of the establishment, the site will however be subject to extensive archaeological excavations.

These should last eight months, indicates

, and end just before the start of the work to create the new place.

Scientists are hoping to uncover ancient artifacts buried there.

The plot was in fact inhabited during the Middle Ages and was then transformed into a garden.

The land then became part of the royal park of Saint-Cloud, from which it was detached in 1825. Archaeologists carried out surveys making them confident about the elements they could uncover.

Excavations that can be visited for one day

The interdepartmental public establishment Yvelines-Hauts-de-Seine will take care of the excavations requested by the regional directorate of cultural affairs (DRAC) Île-de-France.

The archaeological site will be open to the public on September 17 as part of European Heritage Days.
