"Unconditional direct recording of the world's top famous schools", "GPA-free, language-free, preparatory-free"... In the advertisement, major overseas universities were labeled with price tags.

On social platforms such as Zhihu, a number of "guaranteed admission" agencies offered an olive branch to undergraduate Zhou Luo.

After shopping around, he chose the one with the lowest price.

Since 2021, Zhou Luo has received admission notices from many overseas famous schools.

Looking back at the application materials, he was stunned to find that he, who had never set foot in the United States, actually had an American undergraduate transcript and degree certificate.

It is inferred from common sense that the so-called "guaranteed admission" must be open-mouthed. Even if it is "admitted", it is often an obscure school or even "Clayton University".

However, unexpectedly, after Zhou Luo paid 180,000 yuan, what he got was a genuine admission notice from a famous overseas school.

Could it be that the threshold of overseas famous schools is so "fake"?

What is the sacredness of "guaranteed admission" for studying abroad?

In fact, the study abroad agency does not have any special way of "internal recommendation", but directly falsifies the application materials for the "customer".

Based on the principle of good faith, the university trusts the materials submitted by the institution and issues admission notices to students.

The problem is that after successfully "going ashore", students have to face the serious sequelae left by the fraud alone.

No matter how decent a "Li Gui" is, it can't stand up to scrutiny. Regardless of whether the educational background supports a background check, the school can find problems as soon as a random check is conducted, and students will face being ordered to drop out.

The fearful Zhou Luo has registered for admission to the University of Birmingham in the UK, but so far has not paid the tuition fee, and is even more afraid to study.

In fact, this concern is not superfluous.

In recent years, it is not uncommon for students to be dropped out of school due to false guarantees.

In 2018, seven Chinese students were expelled from the State University of New York at Stony Brook for submitting false transcripts when applying for graduate studies.

Even if you pass the test and enter the university, it does not mean that you will graduate smoothly.

Just take the United States as an example, a total of 17.5 million college freshmen are enrolled each year, but the graduation rate of college students is the lowest in developed countries.

The 10 public universities with the lowest graduation rates all have graduation rates below 15%.

In 2009, Duke University recruited a total of 14 undergraduate students from mainland China. On the first day of school in 2010, only 8 students showed up as scheduled. The remaining 6 students were dismissed by the school because their grades could not meet the school's requirements.

It is actually a "pit" to be able to enter a world famous school with money.

However, due to the combined effect of many factors, it seems that there is quite a "market". In recent years, "guaranteed admission" advertisements have been common in major social media.

Some international students complained on the Internet: Many study abroad institutions will secretly promote the so-called "guaranteed admission" program, claiming that spending money can win the title.

We must hurry to stop leaks, and in the face of such a fake industry chain, supervision needs to be strengthened.

Regrettably, the study abroad institutions suspected of fraudulent record keeping are still in the gray area of supervision.

In the field of studying abroad or involving the jurisdiction of the Education Bureau and the Social Security Bureau, the market supervision department can only check whether the study abroad institution is suspected of false propaganda. Who will supervise the application materials of the study abroad agency? Kowloon flood control" embarrassment.

At the same time, industry supervision needs to be strengthened urgently.

In December 2021, the Overseas Education Research Center of China Education Think Tank Alliance established the National Overseas Education Industry Organization Standardization Service and Credit System Construction Alliance, and more than 300 industry organizations have joined.

"We have also established an industry blacklist, and 50-60 institutions have been included in it, and the list will be announced to the public from time to time in the future."

  There is no free lunch.

Parents and students need to be alert to the scam of being guaranteed admission because of vanity, and don't believe any lies such as "taking shortcuts to guarantee admission" and "low score to get to a prestigious school".
