China News Service, Beijing, July 22 (Reporter Ying Ni) The launch of the national tour of the symphonic poem "A Thousand Miles of Rivers and Mountains" and the National Tour Press Conference of the China Philharmonic Orchestra were held in Beijing on the 21st. The works jointly commissioned by the academy and troupe will start a national tour at the end of July this year, when the China Philharmonic Orchestra, Shanghai Symphony Orchestra, Guangzhou Symphony Orchestra, Shenzhen Symphony Orchestra, and Hangzhou Philharmonic Orchestra will perform 20 performances in various places.

The "A Thousand Miles of Rivers and Mountains" currently in the Palace Museum is the only work handed down by the painter Wang Ximeng of the Northern Song Dynasty.

The undulating peaks and mountains in this picture, and the vast rivers and mists, has always been regarded as a giant masterpiece in the green landscapes of the Song Dynasty.

The symphonic poem "A Thousand Miles of Rivers and Mountains" based on "A Thousand Miles of Rivers and Mountains" was proposed during the China Symphony Orchestra Art Management Forum in 2021. Under the advocacy, 23 symphony orchestras across the country jointly proposed to the composer Zhao Lin to commission the creation.

"Director Yu Long and I have collaborated on many works. After each work is completed, we will think about what to do with the next one. We have discussed this work for more than a year." Zhao Lin said.

It is well known that Zhao Lin and his father Zhao Jiping are both famous composers, but little known is that the father and son were born in a family of calligraphy and painting. Zhao Lin's grandfather Zhao Wangyun is one of the founders of the Chang'an School of Painting.

Influenced by his family heritage, Zhao Lin has been interested in painting, especially traditional Chinese painting, since he was a child.

"Our family paints more than makes music. I saw my grandfather paint when I was ignorant when I was a child, including my uncle and uncle painting later. In fact, the painting is permeated with strong Chinese aesthetic concepts, and our music creation has many There are similarities, so I have always wanted to use music to express Chinese painting."

This time, Zhao Lin used music as a brush to create a symphonic poem "A Thousand Miles of Rivers and Mountains", indulging in depicting the beautiful mountains and rivers in his heart.

In his creation, the composer Zhao Lin turned this famous scroll into a musical poem. His creation is not limited to interpreting pictures with music, but focuses on reflecting the inner feelings of Chinese people when facing nature.

Zhao Lin said, "The most important thing in ancient paintings is the expression of artistic conception. To show people's heart and spirit through artistic conception is what I want to express in this work."

In the volume of "A Thousand Miles of Rivers and Mountains", the painter divides the scenery into 6 parts, which are relatively independent and interrelated, and are subtly connected together to achieve the artistic effect of different scenery.

Correspondingly, the symphonic poem "A Thousand Miles of Rivers and Mountains" also adopts the structure of six movements, and through the different instrumental forms used in each movement, six pictures of music with completely different styles are formed.

The orchestral movement "Flying Clouds, Chutian Thousands of Miles" first outlines a panoramic landscape painting scroll; Sheng, Pipa, Erhu, Piano, Soprano and Bamboo Flute are successively presented in the following five movements.

In the last movement, the ancient poem sung by the soprano is Meng Haoran's "Looking at Mount Lu from Pengli Lake".

"We discussed with a number of experts, and also read a lot of related books, and finally chose this poem. Its feeling is closest to "A Thousand Miles of Rivers and Mountains". According to research, part of the painting itself is also related to Mount Lu." Zhao Lin said .

On July 30, the Shanghai Symphony Orchestra will present the world premiere of the symphonic poem "A Thousand Miles of Rivers and Mountains" online at the closing concert of the 2022 Shanghai Summer Music Festival under the baton of young conductor Sun Yifan.

On August 3, Artistic Director and Chief Conductor Yu Long will lead the China Philharmonic Orchestra to hold a concert of the symphonic poem "A Thousand Miles of Rivers and Mountains" in Xi'an, which kicks off the tour. Yu Long will conduct the concert in addition to the Hohhot Station concert. All the performances of the China Philharmonic will be performed in Hohhot by Huang Yi, the permanent conductor of the China Philharmonic.

The China Philharmonic Orchestra will complete 10 of the 20 tours of the symphonic poem "A Thousand Miles of Rivers and Mountains", and the other 10 will be performed by symphony orchestras across the country.

Among the performances in various places, the concerts in Shenzhen on August 5th and Guangzhou on the 10th were particularly noticeable.

2022 is the 25th anniversary of Hong Kong's return to the motherland, so the two performances will be completed by the "Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area Festival Orchestra" composed of musicians from Hong Kong, Macau, Guangzhou and Shenzhen.

On September 24, at the Poly Theater in Beijing, the China Music Association Symphony Alliance-Beijing International Music Festival Festival Orchestra led by the China Philharmonic Orchestra will use this magnificent orchestral work to open this year's Beijing International Music Festival.
