As the search for the missing person continues, adjustments are being made with the Russian side for the delivery of the bodies of a total of three people found on Kunashiri Island and Sakhalin in the northern territories.

The accident in which the sightseeing boat "KAZU 1" carrying 26 passengers and crew sank off the coast of the Shiretoko Peninsula on April 23, killed 14 passengers and left the whereabouts of 12 unknown.



Even on the 23rd, three months after the accident, the 1st Regional Coast Guard Headquarters continues to search in a wide area including the area around Kunashiri Island.



According to the Japan Coast Guard Headquarters, a total of about 790 ships and about 300 aircraft have participated in the search so far from the Japan Coast Guard, the Self-Defense Forces, and the police.



According to the people concerned, the Russian authorities conducted a DNA test on the bodies of three men and women found on the west coast of Kunashir Island in the northern territories and in the southern part of Sakhalin by last month. The Japanese side has been informed that they have matched.



Coordination is underway with the Russian side regarding the timing and method of delivery of the body, and it is expected that the Japanese side will also conduct an appraisal to identify the body after the delivery.



On the other hand, the Japan Coast Guard Headquarters has continued to verify the hull since the sunken tourist boat was withdrawn at the end of May, and also listened to the situation voluntarily from the president of the operating company "Shiretoko Tour Boat", Seiichi Katsura. We are proceeding with an investigation on suspicion of death due to negligence.
