The Autobahn 7 in Hamburg-Bahrenfeld will be completely closed in the direction of Hanover from Friday evening due to construction work.

Due to the construction of the Altona noise protection tunnel, significant traffic disruptions must therefore be expected at the weekend, as the police announced on Thursday in Hamburg.

For the work, the stretch between Hamburg-Stellingen and the Elbe Tunnel will be closed to the south between Friday 10:00 p.m. and Monday 5:00 a.m.

The four junctions Stellingen, Volkspark, Bahrenfeld and Othmarschen will no longer be passable from 9 p.m.

This means that the Elbe Tunnel in the direction of Hanover is also closed.

The police recommend that you avoid the closure on a large scale or use the train service.

Passengers and visitors to Hamburg Airport should also plan more time for their journey or switch to local public transport, as the airport announced on Thursday.

The inner-city traffic will be diverted via the Elbe bridges, national traffic will be diverted between Neumünster-Süd and the Horster Dreieck via the B205, the A21 and the A1.

The full closure of the Flensburg direction lane is planned for the following weekend.

During the closures, construction of the first elements for the Altona noise protection tunnel is to begin.

It is planned to install prefabricated beams next to the bridges that crossed Osdorfer Weg and Bahrenfelder Strasse, which have been demolished on one side.

The tunnel elements should take over the bridge function.

Autobahn GmbH Nord has already announced another complete closure for mid-November for the complete demolition of the old bridges.

The two-kilometre-long noise protection tunnel over the A7, which will then be expanded to eight lanes, should be completed by 2028.
