The 7th wave of the Coronavirus epidemic is finally decreasing in Loire-Atlantique and its region.

  • But the figures, and in particular those of hospitalizations, remain at a high level.

She had been closely scrutinized for several weeks.

While Loire-Atlantique was positioned as the department where the Covid-19 figures were the highest in France, the situation is improving.

According to the regional health agency, the incidence rate fell by 38% in one week, to reach 1,073 cases per 100,000 inhabitants.

A fall comparable to that observed in the region, which showed this Wednesday evening a rate of 996 cases per 100,000 inhabitants.

“We have passed the epidemic peak but the figures remain extremely high, indicates the ARS.

It will take a few more weeks for this drop to be visible in hospitals as well.

"The pressure on the hospital system is there"

On Wednesday, 588 patients were hospitalized in the Pays-de-la-Loire, including 317 for Covid, respectively 9 and 14% more than last week.

What accentuate the already strong tensions in the health establishments, which suffer from a lack of personnel.

“We are seeing a lot fewer serious forms, but the pressure on the hospital system is still there, says Professor Alain Mercat, head of the intensive medicine and resuscitation department at the Angers University Hospital.

We receive many elderly or fragile patients who do not necessarily need oxygen but for whom, once hospitalized, it is more difficult to send them home as quickly afterwards.

The authorities are again calling on people over 60, eligible for the second booster dose, to get vaccinated “without waiting for the new vaccines which should arrive at the start of the school year”.

In the Pays-de-la-Loire, only 22.8% of 60-79 year olds received their fourth dose.

They are 41.2% among those over 80 years old.
