The

Carlos III Health Institute

estimates that the deaths attributable to the

high temperatures

registered until this Tuesday, when the

heat wave had already ended,

were more than a thousand people, specifically

1,047,

with Monday and Tuesday as the days with the most

estimated deaths,

184.

According to statistics from

the Daily Mortality Monitoring System

(MoMo) of the Carlos III Health Institute, "observed and estimated" deaths from causes attributable to

excess temperature

were on the rise: on the 10th there were 15 deaths, 28 on Monday. eleven;

41 on Tuesday, 60 on Wednesday, 93 on Thursday, 123 on Friday and

150 on Saturday

.

On Sunday the figure rose to 169 while on Monday and Tuesday the number of

184 deaths

was repeated .

Of the

1,047 people who would have died from the heat wave

, it is estimated that 672 are over 85 years old, 241 are between 75 and 84, and another 88 would have died between 65 and 74 years.

The objective of

the MoMo statistics

is "to identify the deviations of observed daily mortality with respect to that expected, according to the

historical series of mortality

", and allows "indirectly estimating" the impact of any event of importance in

public health

.
