The Haitian poet and playwright Jean d'Amérique recounts yet another police check in Paris motivated by the color of his skin.

Another so-called identity check: in a crowd of white people heading for the metro, two cops stop me to search me.

I ask why they want to control me and not the others.

“We choose who we want, that's how it is,” they reply.
