Germany records more than 2,000 cases of monkeypox

Today, Tuesday, the German Robert Koch Institute for Disease Control announced that more than two thousand confirmed cases of monkeypox have been recorded in Germany.

The institute has counted 2,033 cases of monkeypox in all 16 German states to date.

The institute indicated that all the injured were men, except for two women.

In a statement, the institute stated: “The transmission of infection occurs primarily in the context of sexual activities,” explaining that, in principle, any person who has been in physical contact with an infected person can transmit the infection to him.

He noted that his assessment of the "risk to the general health of the population in Germany is low".

It is reported that the first case of monkeypox was recorded in Germany about 6 weeks ago.

Monkeypox is considered a less serious disease than smallpox, which has been eradicated since 1980. The virus is transmitted from person to person through close physical contact.
