The first civic tech forum in French-speaking Africa was held in Abidjan, Côte d'Ivoire, from June 28 to 29, 2022. The event was organized by

CFI

as part of the

Citizen Connections 2

project , a support system, development and incubation of digital citizen action projects.

These two days of meetings, prepared by Samsa Africa, brought together more than 120 journalists, activists, experts and personalities from African civic tech.

She spoke on site with many civic tech actors from French-speaking Africa.

In this program, close-up on two Malians, 

Fatouma Harber

, is a teacher, blogger and human rights activist in Timbuktu, northern Mali.

She recounts her journey in the field of civic tech which began in 2012 when she joined Mondoblog when Mali was in the midst of an insurrection.

She created Sankoré Labs, a third place created to reduce the digital divide that has become a rallying point for the youth of Timbuktu.

Despite the threats, she manages to move the lines for a better future in her city and her country.

Member of the Africtivistes collective, she received the prize for civic engagement in 2021.  

Tidiani Togola

, physicist and computer scientist, is creator of the Tuwindi Foundation, based in Bamako, explains why civic tech and the media must develop together, and how the Malian context has specific challenges.
