The creators of the cutest character in the Mandalorian series were accused of plagiarism: the director of the Gremlins dilogy, Joe Dante, in an interview with the San Francisco Chronicle, said that an eared humanoid with big eyes named Grogu was completely copied from the character of his universe of comedy horror mogwai Gizmo.

“It seems to me that the continued popularity (of the Gremlins and Gremlins 2 paintings. -

) is largely due to this particular character (Gizmo. -

), essentially resembling a child, says Dante.

- And in this regard, of course, I cannot fail to mention Baby Yoda, whose image is stolen and frankly copied (with Gizmo. -

).

Just brazenly, I would say.

The characters have an undeniable similarity: both have funny long ears, big eyes and the same manner of speech - Grog and Gizmo communicate by cooing and strange sounds, and both vehemently defend the figure of their father in their lives.

Fans have also noticed the similarities between the characters, posting many collages of Gizmo and Grog online after Baby Yoda's screen debut.

Also, the heroes were compared by the star of the film about gremlins, Zag Galligan, stating to Entertainment Weekly that "his friend is cuter."

In his opinion, the fact is that Gizmo is fluffy, and Baby Yoda has no fur.

As Galligan put it, Grog "looks like he's been shaved a bit."

However, the appearance of Baby Yoda in other Star Wars projects, Joe Dante does not have to worry.

Director and screenwriter Taika Waititi admitted to Total Film that he plans to create a completely new project in the universe, in which there will be no old characters.

“I don’t think I’m going to be of any use to the Star Wars universe by making a movie where everyone will be like, ‘Oh wow, these are blueprints for the Millennium Falcon.

Wow, Grandma Chewbacca,” said Waititi, who previously starred in The Mandalorian.

“It’s all stand-alone, which is great, but I want to work on something new and invent new characters while developing this universe, otherwise the scope of the story seems too limited.”

The Grog doll was created by Legacy Effects.

It is controlled by a special rod.

From the very first appearance on the screen, the character won the hearts of many fans.

Social media was filled with green puppet memes.

Although The Mandalorian showrunner Jon Favreau initially tried to avoid Grog being endearing.

Recall that the premiere of the series “The Mandalorian” took place in 2019.

The plot centers on a lone Mandalorian mercenary named Din Djarin, who lives on the edge of the habitable galaxy, where New Republic law does not apply.

Previously, he was a representative of noble warriors, and now he is forced to be a marginal.

In the first season, he meets Grog, who, as it turns out later, has great strength.

In the Season 2 finale, the Mandalorian and Grog part ways when Luke Skywalker takes Grog to teach him how to use the Force.

The third season of The Mandalorian will premiere in February 2023.

In May, the Star Wars Celebration, an event for fans of the Star Wars franchise, showed an exclusive teaser for the upcoming season, revealing many interesting details.

So, for example, Djarin will face the consequences of removing his sacred helm and there will be a serious battle between him and the armored Mandalorian warriors.

In addition, it is known that Grog will again be next to his foster father, and this time not alone, but together with a modified android IG-11 - the robot will carry the baby and serve as his armor.

The teaser ends with Djarin and Grogu flying to Mandalore, where the mercenary plans to restore his honor by visiting the "living waters" beneath the mines.
