The summer festival of "Sawara no Taisai", which is registered as an intangible cultural heritage of UNESCO, started on the 15th in Katori City, Chiba Prefecture, and the participants paraded around without making a loud shout as an infection control measure.

"Sawara no Taisai" is a traditional festival held every summer and autumn in the Sawara district of Katori City, which prospered as a key point for water transportation on the Tone River during the Edo period.

It was canceled due to the influence of the new corona, but it was held for the first time in 3 years.

At the summer festival that started on the 15th, there were 10 floats decorated with huge dolls that were about 3.5 meters high.

Of these, the doll of "Ame no Uzume no Mikoto" (Ame no Uzume no Mikoto), which is known as "Okame-san", was produced in the first year of culture more than 200 years ago and is currently displayed. It is the oldest of all.

As the infection of the new corona spread again, the participants paraded around the town without making a loud shout as an infection control measure.

A man in his 70s who participated in the festival said, "I have been patient for two years without the festival. I hope the new Corona will converge soon."

The summer festival of "Sawara no Taisai" is open until the 17th.
