The Swiss police have pulled out an electric scooter that can accelerate up to motorway speed.

The two-wheeler had been upgraded to a speed of 120 kilometers per hour (km/h), as the Valais canton police announced on Thursday.

E-scooters are only permitted up to a speed of 20 km/h.

This was made possible by a built-in motor with 4000 watts of power.

500 watts are permitted.

The 23-year-old driver was stopped and reported in Brig-Glis in the Rhone Valley.

Curiously, the man and his vehicle were not caught by the police one night at the end of June because of excessive speed.

Rather, something was wrong with the lighting on the e-scooter.

The fact that the man was driving an illegally souped-up machine only turned out later on the test stand.
