Due to the state of drought and heatwave vigilance, the Ariège prefecture has decided to ban fireworks, firecrackers and lantern releases until Sunday.
In Haute-Garonne, fireworks are reserved only for professionals, individuals are prohibited until Friday morning from buying, transporting or using fireworks.
There will be no fireworks in Pamiers on July 14 as planned, or in Lavelanet this Sunday.
Due to the heat wave, but also the drought that is raging in the department and the state of water resources, the prefecture of Ariège has decided to ban all fireworks from this Tuesday and until Sunday night.
Placed on yellow alert by Météo-France for the heat wave which is expected to intensify further in the coming days, the department faces an increased risk of fires.
In fact, the use of firecrackers or the release of lanterns are also affected by this decree.
Especially since the numbers of firefighters in Ariège, mainly made up of volunteers, are currently subject to leave, but also to cases of Covid, as well as to "oversolicitation in respect of the health crisis, the heat wave and emergency medical transport”, explains the State services to justify this decision which was also taken in other departments.
It is also forbidden to smoke, light a fire or a barbecue within 200 meters of woods and forests and natural areas under penalty of a fine.
Fireworks only professional in Haute-Garonne
In the neighboring department of Haute-Garonne, placed in orange heat wave vigilance, the fireworks fired by professionals, like that of Toulouse on the evening of July 14, remain topical.
On the other hand, the prefecture indicates that the sale, transport and use of pyrotechnic material by individuals are prohibited from this Wednesday until Friday, 6 am.
As well as campfires and barbecues are prohibited in forests until September 15.
