• Loire-Atlantique ranks as the department where the indicators are the highest.

  • But the epidemic seems to be slowing down and having only a small impact on the healthcare system.

The seventh wave of Covid-19 is particularly strong in Loire-Atlantique.

For the past few days, the department has also been the one where the incidence rate is the highest in France, confirms the Regional Health Agency (ARS) this Wednesday evening.

According to the latest figures, the incidence rate has reached 1,734 cases per 100,000 inhabitants.

A level well above the regional rate (1.503), itself higher than the national average.

“In the region, the positivity rate is very very high [44.6%], which means that only those who have symptoms will be tested, comments Dr. Pierre Blaise.

The wave pressure is indisputable.

As in the previous ones, it is difficult for the authorities to understand its virulence.

Could the Hellfest, where several hundred thousand people gathered at the end of June, be responsible?

“No study demonstrates this,” indicates the ARS, which recalls that the event brought together people from all over France, and even further afield.

However, in the Clisson basin, the rate rises to 2,000.

“The indicators are also high in other intermunicipalities”, notes the ARS, which speaks of a multifactorial phenomenon, with for example a possible consequence of an early arrival of holidaymakers in the department.

The peak soon reached

If the incidence rate is similar to that observed in April, the situation seems to be more under control in hospitals.

According to the ARS, 159 people hospitalized had Covid, including 16 in intensive care, in Loire-Atlantique.

If tensions are in any case to be expected this summer in hospitals, the authorities believe that the peak of this seventh wave could soon be reached.

“We are already seeing a slowdown in the increase in contamination compared to the previous week, illustrates Benoît James, Covid director at the ARS.

There are some green signals which will, we hope, be confirmed in the coming days.
