Vaccination centers are reopening, but not against Covid-19.

It is the multiplication of the number of cases infected with monkeypox that worries the health authorities today.

Moreover, doses of vaccines against the virus have started to arrive in 70 vaccination centers, with an increase in the coming days, the general directorate of Health said on Wednesday.

In detail, 7,500 doses of the national stock of smallpox vaccines have already been destocked, said Doctor Clément Lazarus, of the Directorate General for Health, during a hearing on monkeypox before the Social Affairs Committee. of the Senate.

Additional commands

“5,000 doses are already planned for next week and the following week, and we will continue like this according to the needs of the regional health agencies which have been reported to us (…) as the vaccination centers open”, he also specified.

In addition, additional orders from the Danish laboratory Bavarian Nordic have been placed, and others are being studied, according to the doctor.

According to Santé Publique France, 912 cases of monkeypox were confirmed as of July 11 in France, mainly affecting adult men, the vast majority of whom are in Ile-de-France.

Expansion of vaccination, but increased criticism

Faced with the rise in cases, France has announced the extension of vaccination from this week, in vaccination centers referenced online (www.sante.fr/monkeypox).

Nevertheless, health authorities are facing a growing number of critics reporting difficulties in getting an appointment.

“You have to have the arms to vaccinate, the organizations, it requires people, human resources (…) We are trying to scale up all collectively to be able to have a satisfactory vaccination offer”, underlined Dr Lazarus.

“First slots are open, others will follow, we will reach cruising speed quickly,” he added.

Enough vaccines for everyone

There are enough anti-smallpox vaccines available to cover the needs in the face of the monkeypox epidemic, had also affirmed, a little earlier in the morning, the Minister of Health, François Braun, during a hearing on the “health watch and safety” bill in the Senate.

“I have heard local concerns and worries with certain regional health agencies, and I will come back to them (…) this afternoon, to find out what is going on”, he also indicated.
