A Russian woman sold her infant daughter in order to undergo a plastic surgery for her nose, this incident that stirred public opinion and turned into the most prominent topic in the Russian media, revealed by local police sources after she received a report about the matter and was able to arrest the mother and recover the infant.

According to the Russian newspaper, "Daily Star", the police arrested a woman who sold her newborn to pay $3,600 for a rhinoplasty.

The Russian authorities did not reveal the name of the 33-year-old woman, who was detained in late May after being accused of committing the crime of human trafficking.

The mother was reported to have given birth to a baby boy on April 25 at a hospital in the southern city of Kaspiysk, before selling it just five days later to a local couple looking to become parents.

According to a statement issued by Russian officials, the mother "met a local resident and agreed to hand him over her newborn son in exchange for a reward of 200,000 rubles."

She received a small down payment of $360.

Less than four weeks later, on May 26, the woman is believed to have received the rest.

The police received a tip shortly thereafter about the crime of selling the child.

No data was available about who submitted the report to the police, who took the initiative to detain the mother and the couple who had adopted the child who was born illegally.

The couple told investigators that the woman gave them the child and his birth certificate, but they denied paying the money to buy the child directly.

They claimed that the mother then asked for $3,200 to have a nose operation "in order to breathe better", stressing that they were happy to have helped in this matter.

The salty newspapers published a picture of the mother and a picture of the woman who bought the baby.
