A hundred breeders from Haute-Savoie decided to carry out a shock action this Thursday by depositing a dead cow in front of the prefecture, in Annecy.

According to France Bleu, the animal was attacked by several wolves.

The purpose of this action was to show residents and state officials "the consequences of not managing the wolf problem",

Bernard Mogenet, president of the FDSEA , told

Dauphiné Libéré .

Unions worried about the future of the profession

The action was launched by several unions: the FDSEA, the Young Farmers, the sheep union and the goat union of Haute-Savoie.

The professionals are calling for more suppression shots as well as a “zero wolf” zone on the department.

Faced with wolf attacks, some breeders have chosen to bring their animals down from the mountain pastures.

But the unions also fear that all this will discourage young people from getting into this activity or, worse, that some breeders will commit suicide or decide to take the law into their own hands.

A delegation was received by the prefect to discuss this sensitive subject and try to find solutions.
