The literary scholar Peter-André Alt will resign as President of the German Rectors' Conference (HRK) on March 31, 2023, 16 months before the end of his second term.

Immediately thereafter, Alt plans to take over as CEO of a new science foundation in Berlin.

Under his leadership, the new foundation with an annual funding budget of up to 25 million euros is set to become one of the key players in the promotion of science.

"The decision to give up the office of President of the German Rectors' Conference before the end of my second and final term of office was not easy for me," Alt commented on the decision.

"However, the offer to work in a leading position for the establishment of an important new science foundation was extremely attractive because it gives me the opportunity to take on responsibility for the science system again in a completely different role." Alt has been President of the since August 2018 HRK and was confirmed in office in April 2021.
