China News Service, Hangzhou, July 7th: What does it mean when Liangzhu Laohuling Ruins Park opens its doors to welcome guests?

  Reporter Tong Xiaoyu

"Imagine, from where you are standing to the tower 3.5 kilometers away, the middle part was a 9-meter-deep reservoir more than 5,000 years ago." On July 7, standing at the easternmost end of Laohuling Ruins Park, Zhejiang Wang Ningyuan, a researcher at the Provincial Institute of Cultural Relics and Archaeology and the archaeological leader of the Liangzhu Ancient City and Water Conservancy System Project, constructed a huge water conservancy world in the Liangzhu period for the reporter.

On July 6, the Laohuling Ruins Park in Hangzhou, Zhejiang Province was opened, and the world's earliest dyke system was opened to the public.

The peripheral water conservancy system of Liangzhu Ancient City is the earliest large-scale water conservancy system discovered so far in China, and the earliest flood-damping dam project discovered so far in the world.

The Laohuling Dam belongs to the Gukou high dam system of the peripheral water conservancy system of Liangzhu Ancient City.

What does the opening of Laohuling Heritage Park mean?

Is it another "check-in point" in Hangzhou, or is it a display of archaeological achievements?

In Wang Ningyuan's view, this marks the completion of the "last display board" of Liangzhu Ancient City. Together with Liangzhu Museum, Liangzhu Ancient City Ruins Park and Yaoshan Ruins Park, it will constitute a complete set of the world heritage value of Liangzhu Ancient City. display system.

In 2019, the ruins of the ancient city of Liangzhu were successfully included in the World Heritage List. The overall value of the heritage is combined by the city site, peripheral water conservancy system, graded cemeteries (including altars) and unearthed artifacts represented by Liangzhu jade artifacts. bear.

Previously, Liangzhu Ancient City Ruins Park, Liangzhu Museum and Yaoshan Ruins Park were opened one after another, but the water conservancy system outside the ancient city was not systematically displayed.

The Laohuling Ruins Park opened this time shows the section of the Laohuling Dam site, which is located at the mouth of the valley between the two mountains. It is also the most valuable section of dam in Wang Ningyuan's eyes.

He said that after more than 5,000 years, the dam body of the water conservancy system outside the ancient city of Liangzhu has long been integrated into the natural landscape, and it is difficult to distinguish.

The grass-covered mud structure of the section on the north side of the Laohuling Dam is very clear, which is the most intuitive evidence to confirm the artificial construction.

The reason why Liangzhu ancestors used grass to wrap mud is the same as that of straw bags for water conservancy construction.

Previously, the traces of this section of grass and mud were exposed to the air, and its traces could only be seen when the air humidity was relatively high.

Today, in the heritage park, a protective cover of heated glass material has been added to the section of the dam, and a soil temperature and humidity probe has also been installed.

The reporter saw that on the grass-covered mud section displayed on the scene, the traces of the circles after carbonization were very clear, and the colors were different from the surrounding.

Hu Junchao, the Liangzhu Cultural and Social Education Commissioner, said that this shows that the straw and mud were transported from different places when they were built, and they were paved as soon as they arrived.

"The process of wrapping mud with grass can be prefabricated, which is convenient for transportation and construction, which is helpful for division of labor and collaboration, and improves construction efficiency."

When tourists visit Laohuling Ruins Park, the biggest attraction is the grass wrapped in mud?

"No." Wang Ningyuan replied, although this is one of the shortest dams in the Liangzhu water conservancy system, standing here can make people feel the huge scale of the entire water conservancy system.

He began to explain from the "God's Perspective": I used to stand on the top of Mojiao Mountain in the Liangzhu Ancient City Ruins Park, and I couldn't see the high dam in the distance, nor the low dam.

But now standing high on the easternmost end of Tiger Ridge, you can see the adjacent dam.

"At that time, the water surface was at the foot of the dam of Tiger Ridge. To the south, 3.5 kilometers, this circle is a reservoir with an altitude of 9 meters. From the north all the way to Anji, Huzhou, there is also a water surface of 3.5 kilometers. The water is deeper and has an altitude of 29 meters. Now all the houses in the Penggong Bamboo Market are underwater." Wang Ningyuan said that it is difficult for ordinary people to feel the grandeur of Liangzhu's ancient city system.

It is reported that with the opening of Laohuling Ruins Park, a more systematic and comprehensive Liangzhu tourism route will also be established.

Tourism, research and the development of a series of cultural and creative products will make Liangzhu, the "golden business card" of Zhejiang culture, richer and more three-dimensional.
