The agglomeration community of Épernay, Coteaux, and Plaine de Champagne (Marne) has just teamed up with the Breton start-up Hoali to join its “gourd friendly” network.

This is an eco-responsible approach, the aim of which is to reduce plastic waste, reports France 3 Grand-Est.

The principle is simple.

Thanks to a QR code, tourists and residents can locate the shops, services or institutions where they can fill their water bottle, rather than buying bottled water.

Public drinking water fountains are also listed there.

The water board has also taken the opportunity to renovate and/or restore them.

A “win-win” approach

"We have recruited a network of 36 ambassadors in our territory", explained to our colleagues Laure Koupaliantz, director of tourist development for the agglomeration.

A “win-win” approach since by agreeing to offer this service, participants benefit from better visibility.

The community of Épernay is the first territory in the region to have joined the “Gourde Friendly” network.

But it could quickly be joined by Grand Reims or the Ardennes.

For Sunday hikers, we can nevertheless remember that kindly asking a local for water remains the best solution to refresh your throat.

And for that, you don't need a smartphone.
