A suspended prison sentence and a fine for a Moroccan girl who posted a video of her dog preying on a cat

Yesterday, Thursday, a Moroccan court issued a suspended prison sentence, compensation and a fine to a girl who posted a video recording showing her inciting her dog to prey on a cat.

The Public Prosecution had charged the video owner with "unnecessarily killing a domestic animal."

The Court of First Instance in the Moroccan city of Fez convicted the girl of the charges against her, and sentenced her to a suspended prison sentence of two months, a fine of 250 dirhams (about $25), and payment of financial compensation of 10,000 dirhams (about a thousand dollars) in favor of the Association for the Defense of Animals.

The video dates back to last April, and a black dog appears reluctant to attack a kitten, which seemed to be terrified as it rotated in a narrow corner, while the owner of the dog encourages it to prey on it.

Many of those who watched the video on social media launched a campaign to file complaints against the girl, calling for her to be punished so that she would serve as an example to anyone who thinks in the future of free abuse of innocent animals.

Subsequently, the security services tracked the video until they were able to determine the identity of its publisher, and her whereabouts in Fez, and her statements were heard and recorded in an official report, then she was referred to the Public Prosecution, which decided to present her for trial.

The concerned person had produced an audio recording on the Moroccan website "Kivash".

Later, the girl appeared in a video in which she admitted her mistake, justifying what she had done by saying that she wanted to train her dog, which is "very social and seeks to play with everything it sees as small, even cats."

She added that she is known for her love of animals, but she does not accept cats, and that everything that was said about her of her enjoyment of her dog's preying on the victim cat is a great injustice to her.

She said people were drawn to what she accused of posting the video for the first time in a cat-loving Facebook group.
