Since the beginning of the month, the figures for Covid-19 contaminations have soared.

Nearly 155,000 new cases have been detected in the past 24 hours, the culprit being the Omicron sub-variant, BA.5.

Health Minister Francois Braun urged eligible people to take their fourth dose and recommended wearing a mask "in crowded places".

Nearly 155,000 new cases have been detected in the past 24 hours.

206,554 new cases two days ago.

An exponential epidemic recovery whose responsible is the sub-variant of Omicron BA.5.

On Tuesday, the new Minister of Health, François Braun, encouraged the second vaccination reminder, the fourth dose for the most fragile and recommended wearing a mask "in crowded places".

The number of cases multiplied by ten

The rebound started at the beginning of June but in recent days the figures have panicked.

The number of cases of Covid-19 recorded has multiplied by ten in one month.

While the country had 20,000 cases at the beginning of June, the bar of 200,000 cases was crossed this month of July.

The incidence rate has also increased: just over 1,100 patients per 100,000 inhabitants against 900 at the end of June.

In Paris, there are even 2,000 contaminations per 100,000 people.

For the next few weeks, the trend is on the rise, as explained by Philippe Amouyel, epidemiologist.

“There would potentially be a peak in July. What is needed now is the implementation of measures, when we know that they act on the progression of the epidemic: vaccination of the most fragile, wearing mask in places that are poorly ventilated, this helps reduce this peak.

Reduce the peak to avoid contamination of the most fragile and therefore an overload of hospitals.

This 7th wave is beginning to have an impact on the hospital, with hospitalizations on the rise.

There are on average 100 new admissions to critical care units every day.

That's 30% more than last week.

Same increase for daily hospitalizations.

In total, nearly 17,500 patients are hospitalized with a Covid infection.

For now, the situation seems contained thanks to high vaccination rates.

83% of those over 60 received a booster dose.

Today in intensive care units almost all of the patients are very old or are fragile, hence the interest for them to be vaccinated.

Moreover, yesterday, 130,000 people over 60 received a second reminder.
