From our special correspondent in Rabat,

The West African derby between Senegal and Burkina Faso at CAN 2022 turned to the advantage of the Senegalese, this July 5 in Rabat.

A great moment of pleasure for the few dozen supporters of the Lionesses who came to witness a great first: the qualification of the women's team for the quarter-finals of an African Cup of Nations.

However, until the opening of the score, the fans of Senegal were not especially spoiled.

After a start rather to the advantage of the Senegalese, it is indeed the Burkinabè who take the lead by playing higher.

Defender Madinatou Rouamba attempts a flat-footed recovery that narrowly misses (14th), her captain Charlotte Millogo does not fit a free kick (24th).

As for number 10, Rasamata Sawadogo, she framed the first shot of the game, captured by goalkeeper Tenning Sene (30th).

Sawadogo, on the other hand, is less precise in the 58th on another cross shot.

Another life-saving penalty for Senegal

The Lionesses react in the 53rd minute with a deflected shot from striker Mama Diop.

Despite numerous tactical readjustments, neither team manages to elevate the debates.

The striker Hapasatou Diallo certainly frames an attempt (73rd).

But it is finally a duel between the middle Alimata Belem and this same Diallo which will unblock the situation.

Referee Suavis Iratunga believes that there is a fault and a penalty, including after recourse to VAR.

Midfielder Korka Fall transforms him: 1-0, 84th.

As against Uganda, Senegal found the fault thanks to a penalty.

This is enough for the happiness of the proteges of Mame Moussa Cissé, who write in passing a new page in the history of Senegalese football.
