The operation of two mailboxes that had been discontinued due to the nuclear accident in Iitate Village, Fukushima Prefecture, was resumed on the 4th for the first time in about 11 years.

The operation was resumed at two mailboxes in the Sasu area in the northwestern part of Iitate village and the Hiso area in the southwestern part, where the evacuation order due to the nuclear accident was lifted five years ago.

All of them were rusty and the doors were difficult to open, so they were replaced with new ones.

Before the nuclear accident, there were 24 mailboxes in Iitate Village, but Japan Post stopped all operations by the end of June 2011 in response to evacuation orders issued to the entire village. ..

After the return began, operations were gradually resumed from the area where the post office used to be, but in these two areas, you can reach the mailbox in another area, which is about a 15-minute drive away. I had to carry it.

Muneo Kanno, the head of the administrative district in the Sasu area, immediately threw mail and said, "While many people are evacuating, mail is an important means of communication, so I am really grateful for the reopening of the mailbox." ..

Satoru Otosaka, director of the Fukushima Chuo Post Office, said, "I want many people to actively use it."
