The Sharjah Book Authority revealed the start of the work of “Lightning Source Sharjah”, the international company that came under a partnership agreement signed by the authority with the “Ingram Content” group, which specializes in printing and distributing books on demand, as it will allow publishers in the Arab region and the world to distribute their books in 40,000 Outlet, library and university all over the world.

Through the company, which is based in the Sharjah Publishing City Free Zone, the authority offers a selection of book stores and libraries in the country the opportunity to order books directly from international publishers, to ensure the speed of supply in the market, and the print-on-demand service provided by "Ingram" provides the possibility of Access to millions of books in more than 170 languages, as this service witnessed the registration of a large number of publishers, to facilitate the access of their books to retail offices and distributors in the UAE and the region.

The company provides printing services at a lower cost, with a speed of completion of up to a few minutes for printing books, and the company adopts environmentally friendly policies that go beyond the challenges of damaged paper, storage, and pollution resulting from shipping traffic.

Chairman of the Sharjah Book Authority, Ahmed bin Rakkad Al Ameri, said: "We are keen to establish global partnerships that achieve qualitative leaps for the publishing movement in the UAE and the region, and provide all capabilities that serve the book industry and facilitate publishers' work mechanisms, to enhance the opportunities for communities to access knowledge sources."

He added: “The move offers publishers, distributors and workers in the printing and publishing field an ideal opportunity to expand their business in regional markets, and contribute to enhancing public access to books and knowledge, as (Ingram Lighting Source Sharjah) is the first project of its kind for Ingram in the region, which enhances the strategic elements that characterizes Sharjah, and the infrastructure that supports global investments in the book market and creative industries, and also reflects the position that the emirate has achieved on the map of global culture.”

For his part, the President of Ingram Content, John Ingram, said: “We have a solid partnership with (Sharjah Book) and we look forward to the promising opportunities offered by the new project,” noting that the move aims to distribute world-class creative works across the Middle East to meet needs of publishers and readers alike.
