On July 3, ECOWAS lifted the economic sanctions that had been hitting Mali since January 9.

Only the targeted sanctions targeting the leaders of the transition and the suspension of the country from the authorities of ECOWAS are maintained.

An agreement was also reached with the Burkinabè authorities on the duration of the transition, with a return of power to civilian power no later than July 1, 2024. Guinea has an additional month to propose a reasonable transition period, less to the three years currently posted, if it wants to avoid economic sanctions.

Jean-Claude Kassi-Brou, President of the ECOWAS Commission, is the guest of RFI.
