On July 3, 2022 local time, a landslide occurred on a alpine glacier in the Marmolada mountains in northern Italy, killing at least six people and leaving at least 12 others missing.

According to local media reports, the accident occurred at about 13:45 local time. The ice sheet on the mountain collapsed and formed a landslide mixed with ice, snow and rocks, affecting many mountain climbers and hikers in the area.

At least eight people were also injured in the glacier landslide, and search and rescue operations were still underway, local officials said.

The local government said there was a risk of continued landslides in the area.
