Efforts to connect the attractions of the sea and railways to regional revitalization will begin in Choshi City, Chiba Prefecture.

This initiative will be started by the Nippon Foundation by selecting a model area from cities nationwide, and the first year will start in Choshi City, Chiba Prefecture and Hitachinaka City, Ibaraki Prefecture.

Of these, the certificate was presented to Choshi City on the 4th.

Choshi City is selected because it has one of the leading fishing ports in Japan and also has a local line, Choshi Electric Railway, which is trying to open a way of life with unique efforts in a difficult business environment.

The foundation wants to revitalize by planning sightseeing tours that make use of the resources of these areas.

Shinichi Koshikawa, the mayor of Choshi City, said, "There is a beach along the Choshi Electric Railway where you can play on the rocky shore, so I would like you to experience the beauty and richness of the sea."

In addition, Katsunori Takemoto, president of Choshi Electric Railway, said, "I want children to learn the deep connection between Choshi and the sea while enjoying the train journey."
