On July 2, in a personal studio in Liuzhou, Guangxi, Mo Di, who was born in 1993, is weaving a bottle-cap-sized piece of armor with string and thread, which is a key step in making ancient armor.

There are three completed armor works in the corner of the room, from Song Jia to Ming Jia, Mo Di is very rare.

"Jia" refers to body armor, and "Xiao" refers to helmets, both of which are protective weapons for soldiers in the era of cold weapons in China, and their history can be traced back to primitive society.

By chance, Mo Di studied and restored this ancient armor. Each piece of armor made by him can sell for more than 10,000 yuan.

Making costumes and props has always been Mo Di's hobby.

After graduating from university, Mo Di went to Hengdian Film and Television City to become a full-time costume and props maker, responsible for the production of various costumes and props in film and television advertisements.

In 2019, a customer ordered a set of armor props from Modi. According to the usual practice, only the most common EVA foam board can be used to carve and make it.

But Mo Di began to have a whim and decided to make this work more delicate and realistic with the accumulated experience and craftsmanship.

So, he bought armor pieces directly from the Internet to weave piece by piece, and completed the first piece of armor work in his life.

"It was originally just a whim, but I didn't expect the finished product to be so amazing." Recalling the first work, Mo Di said proudly.

After that, Mo Di fell in love with armor making out of control.

At the end of 2019, Mo Di returned to his hometown of Liuzhou, Guangxi from Hengdian Film and Television City and began to work full-time in the production of armor restoration.

At present, he has completed a number of armor works, and the dynasties run from the Qin and Han Dynasties to the Ming and Qing Dynasties.

Mo Di introduced that a piece of armor requires as few as a few hundred pieces, or as many as a thousand pieces.

Mo Di needs to use leather or cotton rope to weave these long strips of nails, and the production process varies from several weeks to several months.

With the continuous improvement of production skills, Mo Di's "business opportunities" began to come to the door.

More and more people are buying custom-made armor pieces from him, which brings him some income.

"A piece of armor requires a lot of material cost and labor cost, so the price can reach more than 10,000 yuan, and even there is no ceiling according to the requirements of customization." Mo Di said, "A good armor work is not just a piece of" It should have a certain actual combat value and be able to resist knife and axe slashing, which is closely related to the shape, level and weaving of the armor."

Today, Mo Di also showcases its armor works through various social platforms, which have attracted a lot of attention.

He hopes that the niche armor culture can be accepted and understood by more people.

"Being a soldier is the dream of many boys since childhood, including me of course. Whether it is military uniform or armor, it represents an image of defending the country and representing China's national integrity. This is the ancient armor. It is a precious cultural value." Mo Di said.
