China News Agency, Guangzhou, July 2 (Reporter Li Yingmin) Yao Xuanqiu, a famous Teochew opera performer, died in Guangzhou at 7:05 on July 2 at the age of 88.

  Yao Xuanqiu's assistant and young writer Huang Jianfeng told reporters that Yao Xuanqiu had made outstanding contributions to the development, promotion and inheritance of Teochew opera throughout his life, and he was still running for the development of Teochew opera a few days before he left.

  Yao Xuanqiu (July 15, 1935 - July 2, 2022), female, Han nationality, from Chenghai, Guangdong, national first-class actor, Teochew opera performing artist, representative inheritor of Teochew opera project of national intangible cultural heritage, Guangdong Teochew Theater Honorary Dean, winner of the first Guangdong Literature and Art Lifetime Achievement Award.

  Yao Xuanqiu is known as the "Golden Voice of Teochew Opera", and has formed a unique style of Teochew opera performance in practice. His representative works include Teochew opera "Ci Langzhou", "Su Liu Niang", "Chen San Wu Niang", "Window Sweeping Party" and "Revolutionary Mother Li Liying" "The Story of Lijing", "Mei Ting Snow", "Yang Naiwu and Little Cabbage", "The Story of Enmity and Enmity", "Meeting at the Well", "Wanshan Hong", "Jiang Jie" and so on.

  Yao Xuanqiu has won the first China Golden Disc Award, the first Guangdong Literature and Art Lifetime Achievement Award, China Intangible Cultural Heritage Person of the Year, honorary professor of the Chinese Academy of Drama, and China National Model Worker.

  Teochew opera is an ancient traditional local opera sung in Chaoshan dialect. It has a history of hundreds of years. With the footsteps of Chaoshan people across the ocean, Teochew opera has spread all over the world. Yao Xuanqiu also has many fans at home and abroad.

In 2006, Teochew opera was also included in the first batch of China's national intangible cultural heritage list.
